Dressing Like An Adult

When I turned 30, I knew that I could no longer wear super distressed jeans with 17 bracelets at once. My whole closet used to be Zara and fast fashion brands just don’t hold up over time. I knew I needed to find more age appropriate styles that would last several years. Initially, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about spending more money on quality pieces. I started rebuilding my closet focusing on buying essentials first. Very few of the pieces from my 20’s are still with me now. And while I buy fewer items, I’m in love with the pieces I do have. Now on the other side of the rebuild, I like dressing older. I like the lines of it. I like how people treat me. I began making a list of the styles of clothing made me look more “adult” and found 5 fail-proof essentials:

  1. Pointy Toe Shoes- Look good with every type of pant, skirt, or dress. (pictured: Stuart Weitzman Mira Mules)

2. Structured Handbags - If you carry a floppy tote, a structured handbag will change every. single. outfit. for the better. (Pictured: Mansur Gavriel Elegant Bag)

3. High Waisted Pants / Coats With Belts / Anything That Accentuates Your Waist- Steer clear of all things oversized (Pictured: Mackage Mai Coat)

4. Pencil Skirts- The epitome of classic. (Pictured: Reiss Olivia Pencil Skirt)

5. Slim fit pants (instead of skinnies). Seriously say goodbye to skinny jeans and super tight pants, especially at work. Also, wear more pants instead of jeans. Try twill pants and slacks. A pant will make you look older every time. (Pictured: Theory Italian Stretch Wool Slim Pant)
